there has been a change in my big j boy that makes me kind of smile. i remember being a kid, and suddenly discovering MUSIC. big j has started to like different bands, and he now has a little boom box in his room. i often find him in there, playing on the floor, listening to the music. the husband is disturbed because he says big j likes "gangster rap", but that is just how the husband describes anything that's not johnny cash. in reality, big j pretty much likes the same music i like. he says he loves the words the most, which i think is really cool. it's the reason i love music.
his tv shows have also been changing. he chooses shows like icarly and drake and josh over spongebob or jimmy neutron. he reads everything from calvin and hobbes to the newspaper, but rarely will pick up a "kid" book anymore. last night, we had a deep conversation about the holocaust. his emotion sometimes astounds me. he gets absolutely outraged at social injustice. during "iron man," when the soldiers were dragging the boy away from his father, big j stood up in the theater and yelled, "somebody needs to do something!!"
at any rate, he's not a little kid any more in a lot of ways. and now, he's into music. it seems like such a "teenager" thing to be into. sigh. why oh why do they have to grow up so fast?

My first thoughts were: Oh. Isn't it too soon? He's just a baby!
Can TM send him some TobyMac??? I guess if it's gotta happen, we can at least direct him towards the Christian gangstas, right?
We could take him to the Holocaust museum when you visit (hint). It's very well done, and I think he would love it.

i think he's right on track. i clearly remember being about his age, and asking my mom to KNOCK before she interrupted me listening to the Monkeys on my phonograph.
:) gangsta rap? you are a wild woman.

I can't read any posts with out crying...I can't believe these kids grow up so fast. Where does the time go? Pretty soon I will be a lonely old lady with an empty house. My son has the cd you gave me while I was sick in his room and he listens to it LOUD!

It is hard when they grow up fast, but I have found that each stage comes with a new insight on their part and more importantly MY part. The individual they are becoming and want to be is so wonderful to watch, but letting go of even the littlest thing is hard.

Moose just helped me download all of TM's TobyMac CDs to my MP3...we're bringing it along for Jace.

Funny thing is Carsen is the music one between my kids. His current favorite song is: All Summer Long by Kidd Rock...Not sure if I should encourage him singing "smokin funny things" but it sure is cute to see him.
