the charlie brown christmas tree lives. i had high hopes. i've been looking for one of those cool, artsy tall skinny trees for my downstairs, but no luck. so i dug the old pokey dusty fake tree out and set it up. i figured with a little magic, i could still make it look pretty good. after trying 6 sets of dead lights, i called the husband and asked him to bring home some more white lights. he decided to bring home red lights. they actually look pink when lit up. fairly obnoxious and kinda hard to look at. then the kids start piling on the ornaments. literally. all of them are under 4 feet tall, and most of them are crammed onto the same 6 branches. they had a blast, but it's not exactly a showpiece. at any rate, i decided to leave them like that at least for a night so the kids could feel a little pride in their decorating. my little guy kept saying "mommy, it's so beautiful."

i just smiled and agreed. for a pokey, bent-up hot pink christmas tree, i suppose it is beautiful.
i actually think i might keep it that way.

Love it. When I close my eyes I can see your tree and it looks like a Cosmopolitan. Yum. I like Cosmos. I think that you should have one and take another look at your hip tree.

Have you seen that commercial when they have the tree and the mom says, "It's retro." Retro is now the trees that we grew up with.

oh, this isn't retro. and it's not a cosmo. it's more like a lady with big hairsprayed hair and tons of blue eyeshadow, wearing tight spandex pants and smacking her gum...

Buddy, LEAVE THE TREE. Take pictures of the boys by it. They grow up so fast and very soon that ugly tree will be among your favorite family memories.
