i'm curious. people always talk about "living in the moment." concentrating on the here and now, and forgetting everything else. are people actually able to do this? my brain does not do here and now. my brain is always leaping ahead, making lists, thinking about my next work project, going going going. my body is not far behind. i very rarely just sit down and BE. i think that just BEING sounds like heaven. i would love, just once, to concentrate on the project at hand, rather than mentally racing ahead to the next thing on my list. i think my problem is that i take multi-tasking to a really stupid level. because while i'm cleaning the kitchen, making dinner, listening to my son read a book and thinking about an ad concept...i also tend to throw away the car keys and put the telephone in the microwave. it's bad. especially when i'm stressed or over-busy. so...i'm curious. do you guys do this too? is there anyone who doesn't? HOW?? because if i have to spend one more minute looking for that thing that i just put away somewhere while i was doing something else...my husband will probably kill me. if i can find him. i better go look in the microwave.

Moment? What moment?
NO. I was talking to my friend Kim about this the other night, in regard to praying and how I can't keep my mind on the prayer and it's embarrassing to wander to grocery lists and who needs a haircut when you're talking to the Creator of the Universe. Kim is a very matter-of-fact person and said, "If women have to work on not letting their minds wander during SEX, why would praying be any different?" Her bottom line was: get over it, you're a woman, multi-tasking is what you do.
In your case, you should just quit putting things away. :-)

i don't think any of the stuff i'm always multi-doing is that good for me.
but i agree Care, the thought of just BEING is like Heaven. really. i want that.

Nope, you are definitely not alone here. Karen, I have the same hard time with praying. I wander all over the place. If I make myslf pray out loud, I do better, but not that much better. It is what we do. I once had a male councelor tell me that I just needed to be in the moment with God and just be. I laughed. I know I can't do that.

But I think we need to keep trying, right??

Karen, I love what your friend said about letting your mind wander during sex!! So glad to hear that other people do that besides me!!
Carey, I sympathize. I've been trying not to do this lately to. Cause I tend to get crabby with the people I'm trying to multi task with, which ends up being my kids, and that's not fair.
One thing I do is write things down. Then you can free it out of your head and get back to focusing on what you were doing that was probably equally important. Keep a pad of paper with you that is your "list". And keep a section for great creative ideas too!
