i've been a carb junkie all my life. i exist on all things brown--cereal, pasta, bread, tortillas, granola bars, bagels, bananans. yummy. that's pretty much my menu. as i uh...mature...i realize that this kind of substinance is NOT going to cut it. my good friend karen has been telling me for years to get some protein going, some veggies, some COLOR.

all you have to do is look at her to know she's right. so. in an effort to battle a slowing metabolism, i hereby declare to eat more colorful foods. it won't be any easier than kicking the mountain dew habit that still hasn't exactly been kicked.

honestly, this is not going to be fun for me. i really love my carbs. but, i'm off to find a recipe book...sigh. wish me luck.

Good luck, buddy. I know how hard it will be. I wish I could make you breakfast every morning...you could sit next to Moose (his carb-addiction rivals yours) at the bar and commiserate about the health food in front of you.

i did pretty good today. i ate boring fiber one cereal with a banana, an apple, roast beef, a whole bunch of cherry tomatoes, grilled chicken with salad... and i'm just about ready to take a cake out of the oven. doh.

It's hard work, isn't it? More protein for breakfast will decrease your carb-cravings during the day. Sue always lectured about that, and it turns out she's right.

Um, how was the cake?

No boxes for you!

My best breakfasts come wrapped in a tortilla, buddy. Go get the whole wheat or (better yet) the whole grain tortillas (beware, though, the low carb tortillas are awful), some lunch meat and some shredded cheese. Then scramble up an egg or open a can of black beans. Add salsa and voila! You've got protein AND healthy carbs. You can do it.

Oh Carey, I will pray pray pray! I do think Karen's breakfast idea is right your alley, and you can change up as much as you want. Go for it.

Ahhh, you are a brave woman even attemping this diet change, and when you are successful let me know how you do it. One thing about good carbs though is fiber-speaking from a colon expert, fiber is a good thing:)
