in a desperate attempt to make my almost 11-year-old son more responsible, less forgetful and somewhat ready for the big move to middle school, i have decided to officially park the helicoptor for the rest of the year. no more hovering around to make sure he's on time, has everything, is fully dressed with matching clothes and knows what day it is.*

if you see me trying to start the helicoptor, please shoot me down.

it's for the good of the world. a responsible big j will benefit us all, i promise.

*this blog is in no way related to any incidents involving forgotten hockey gear, forgotten trombones, backwards shirts, 6 overdue library books or birthday invitations that are found in the bottom of the backpack two weeks after the birthday party.

Oh, buddy. Best of luck to you. It's the hardest, rightest thing you'll ever do.

Ack. Not to discourage you, but this is a little note from your friend, Karen, who

1. Went to the parents' breakfast at the high school on the wrong Saturday..
2. Just returned the heart-shaped cookie cutter to the neighbors (almost two years later)..
3. Regularly owes the library overdue book fines..
4. Went back to the post office for two books of stamps that must have been left on the counter, talked the postman into giving her two more books of stamps..and found the original books of stamps in her wallet two weeks later...

So, um...maybe cut Big J a little slack? God just created some of us to be busier in our minds than we appear to be in our bodies.
