we are smack dab in the middle of my annual "perfectly imperfect Christmas" and i know you all love to read about the burned cookies, duct tape light job and badly decorated tree.
but guess what? none of that is happening this year. my perfectly imperfect Christmas has been replaced with a new theme i am calling "half-ass holidays." pardon the cuss word.
half-ass holidays happens when you don't plan to be in town for Christmas, when you have a puppy bent on world destruction, when your husband breaks his thumb and is of no use to you and when the boys don't seem to notice whether i'm martha stewart or not.
seriously. not one of the j boys has said "so. are we getting a tree this year?"
i did string some lights on a tall skinny pine that sits in the corner but we aren't doing the whole big tree thing--gasp! don't call the Christmas police. we won't be here for the holidays AND this puppy would probably knock it over in ten seconds flat. And over. And over. And over.
so. no tree. we do have lights outside, we have a couple of wreaths, the banisters have garland and lighting and...that's about it. we do also have some advent calendars grandma sent and we talk about the meaning of Christmas almost every night. i get a few points for that, right?
next year i will make up for all this lameness with an even MORE perfectly imperfect Christmas. i'm talking full-out glitter bombs in those Christmas cards and reindeer horns on all my j boys.
but this year, we're taking it easy. think of me in january when you are taking down the tree and putting away all those decorations. there are advantages to being a scrooge, after all.
happy half-ass holidays to you :)

in your honor, bob, i just decorated the dining room table amd made a card tree out of lighted branches, a big glass vase, shiny christmas balls and some evergreen. it actually looks good and it didn't cost me a dime.

Well if that is half-assed, which by the way I just used as an adjective to tell Karen how boot camp effort was, then I have 0-assed Christmas effort so far. And you KNOW I need the perfect Christmas...
Where are you going by the way, and need to hear more about the puppy!

zero-assed. my new favorite adjective!
ps. Carey. i know you are an 'embellisher' and i'm sure your house is much more festive than you are letting on. and with no pictures, who is going to disagree?!
love you, half=assed or not.
