yikes. tomorrow my oldest j boy turns 12 and life has been so crazy i haven't even thought about it. he says he wants cash, but i better go shop for SOMETHING or his birthday will be a huge yawn. i am terrible when it comes to celebrating things around here. another significant "girl" gene i appear to be missing.

in addition to the fact this his big day is on a wednesday, it is also a travel day for our family. we head out at noon for colorado for a four day ski vacation. i guess that could count as a pretty good present, but who wants to spend their birthday in a car playing video games for 10 hours on their birthday? 

oh. right.

in the meantime, i will bake the boy a cake we can eat tonite after hockey practice. or maybe i'll take treats TO hockey practice. i'll go get him something fun to go with his cash and buy a funny card. he digs those.

it is hard to believe i've had this wonderful boy for twelve whole years. i can still feel his little boy hand tugging mine backwards, always wanting to slow down while the rest of us ran ahead. now he's a dude with a job...sigh.

i'm ready to slow down now, big j. just stop with the growing up already.
